I didn’t know what game Finn was playing at, with all those chivalrous gestures and all that furtive staring. It had been easier to handle him when he’d been trying to piss me off. At least with that, I knew what to expect. Now, I had no idea what he’d do next.

While trying to cook dinner for me, he’d apologized as he held my hand. Then he’d gripped my hips and looked into my eyes with a hungry, ravenous gaze. In that moment, it seemed like it wasn’t the burnt grilled cheese he was hungry for.

My cheeks flushed even as I thought about it.

He was laying on the charm a little too well this time. If I had been anyone else I might have been at risk of falling for it. But I was wise to Finn’s tricks. I wasn’t going to let him get under my skin.

I just wished I knew why he was acting like this all of a sudden. Was he trying to butter me up before planning to do something outrageous? I thought he would have known better by now.

“Look out, coming through!” a young man called out as he rushed by, carrying a medium-sized amp in his arms. I quickly stepped back to get out of his way, but only ended up bumping into someone wearing a headset and carrying a clipboard. The woman gave me a dirty look and shouldered past me.

I’d arrived at the concert hall with Finn and the others, but they had soon been swarmed by a bevy of event staff and assistants, and I’d been left to fend for myself.

I stepped lightly between harried looking staff, trying to find out where Finn and the others had been ushered off to. Despite all my celebrity connections, I’d never been backstage at a concert hall this big before, or this busy. It seemed like it took a hundred people or more to pull off the kind of show that Until We Break put on.

It had been long enough since I’d last seen Finn that I was beginning to worry. Who knew what kind of crazy he could have gotten up to, especially backstage at a show like this one.

“Excuse me,” I asked as I approached a musclebound man with security written across his t-shirt. “Where can I find the band?”

He gave me a cursory look.

“Are you supposed to be here?” he asked. “Where’s your pass?”

I looked through the three lanyards I’d been given when I’d arrived. One said “media”, one said “staff” and the last said “VIP.” Finn hadn’t known which one would give me the most freedom to move around so he’d made sure I got one of each. I didn’t know which one would impress the security guy the most, so I held up all three.

He eyed me up and down. Maybe he was wondering who I was, that I’d been given such all-inclusive access. He jabbed a thumb behind his shoulder.

“Back there,” he grunted.

I slipped past him before he could change his mind.
